Get a contract for the shortest period possible then when the 12 or 18 months is up switch to a sim only deal, this way you'll only get a bill for around £15 per month. I think it's mad to be paying up to £50 a month for a mobile, the other option is to buy a handset straight out from say eBay or a second hand store, seen the older models (3GS and 3G) for around the £150 - £200 mark then go on a sin only deal. Most big mobile networks offer a sim only package where you can add bolt ons such as extra free texts and web browsing minutes.
